The Austrian Vehicle Industry Association is the Austria-wide legal representation of interests of all companies in the vehicle industry. This includes automobile construction (cars, trucks, buses, tractors), two-wheelers (motorcycles and bicycles), trailers and bodies, vehicle components and parts (such as engines and transmissions, exhaust systems, plain bearings, clutches, brake parts) as well as a variety of other products (forklifts, airplanes, etc.). Engineering, prototype construction and industrial vehicle repair are also part of the members' areas of activity.
The association currently has around 144 member companies with a total of 37,600 employees, which generate an annual production value of more than 17.9 billion euros. Due to the small domestic market, companies have to prove themselves with their technically high-quality products on markets all over the world. The high direct export rate of more than 90 % proves, that this is achieved in an excellent manner and that the industry's products have a very high reputation worldwide.
The areas of responsibility of the Austrian Vehicle Industry Association as a representation of the interests of its members include bargaining collective agreements, the right to legal review, participation in commercial and economic administration, the promotion of the economic, social and humanitarian affairs of the members, the strengthening of the community spirit and reputation in society as well as maintaining member files and statistics. Other important activities include the reconciliation of interests with other associations, advertising, public relations, the creation of non-binding association recommendations and professional rules as well as advising individual members.
The Austrian automotive industry is one of the most research-intensive sectors and invests around 21,500 euros per employee in this area every year.
