The Institute of Thermodynamics and Sustainable Propulsion Systems at Graz University of Technology is dedicated to providing innovative and internationally recognized teaching and research in the interconnected system energy, engines, traffic and environment and to contributing to the solution of problems that affect the environment.

Innovation

Our most important objective is to teach and carry out research innovatively in terms of the methods that are employed as well as the results that are obtained. This ensures that education and professional development are state of the art and that the needs and expectations of students, the scientific community, the industry and Institute employees are fulfilled.

Continuity

We understand continuity to be the systematic pursuit of important fields of work and cooperation with industry and other institutions. Internationally recognized research findings can only be obtained by continually working to develop within these fields. We intend to achieve continuity above all through intensified basic research activities, our organizational structure and forward-looking human resources and financial planning.

Communication and cooperation

The ability to communicate and cooperate – within the Institute as well as outside of it – is the foundation for effectively handling the tasks of the Institute. Therefore, it is essential that our employees are team players. The central element in developing and improving communicative and cooperative competences is a clear structural and procedural organization that uses defined communication processes to guarantee the flow of information in all directions.

Transfer

For us, transfer means incorporating research findings into teaching and making these results available to science and industry. Applied research, which is a fundamental concern of the Institute, rests upon the ability to transfer, which also provides the basis for successful and ongoing cooperation with industrial partners. Only through the systematic transfer of research findings into teaching and research can sustainable solutions to problems in the areas of energy, engines, traffic and environment be guaranteed.
